I must be Canadian.

Ok.  I’ve had funny run-ins with my stepdad’s family in Pennsylvania about this.  The first time I went there and stayed at my Mom Mom’s house, like my family usually does, we entered the house and take off our shoes.

One day, my Mom Mom watched me take off my shoes at the door and said, “You know… you can keep your shoes on.  Doesn’t it suck having to take them off all the time?”

I looked at her weirdly.  I still continued to take my shoes off after that point still.  It’s weird how even though we share the same border, there are vast differences in mannerisms and traditions.

I don’t know, to me, I feel terrible walking through someone’s house or even my house in my shoes.  I even feel awful if I wear my outdoor sandals and walk through the house.  It just means being respectful to the home and also not dragging any crap from outside indoors.

Being told to keep my shoes on in the house made me feel very conflicted and weird.  When you’ve been doing something since childhood, old habits die hard.  I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad habit though.  At the end of the day, my favourite thing to do is take off my shoes and walk around in my socks or bare feet because it just FEELS good after a long day!

I get this. We used torun a business out of our home so anywhere in the house that was business related we kept our shoes on. It was hard to get out of the habit when we closed the business. I think you should take off your shoes if your in someone else’s house unless they’ve told you not too
